We regret that due to funding reductions, we are unable to schedule our usual workshops for parents this year. Please check back in June 2010 for an update.
Parent Education Workshops are provided at our agency, in neighborhood schools, and at other locations in the community. Workshops are usually two hours in length, held in the evening, and are led by staff counselors and therapists. Fees are $12 per person or $18 for two people; scholarships are available. To Register contact Susan P. White at 410-848-8685 or 443-244-8685, or print and mail in this form.
Some of our workshops include:
Do you ever feel stressed as a parent? Raising kids is the most rewarding and challenging job there is. We'll discuss positive ways to manage stress and anger, stay calm, and take care of ourselves as well as our kids.
A workshop for parents of children ages 5-11, with a focus on positive, effective discipline. Topics include understanding and redirecting misbehavior and strategies for increasing cooperation and communication.
A workshop to focus on strategies parents can use to foster self-confidence and healthy coping skills, encourage an optimistic "can-do" attitude, and increase children's skills in dealing successfully with challenging situations and events.
A presentation of a special program developed by Thomas W. Phelan PhD. for parents to use with children from kindergarten through the elementary years. Workshop will focus on how to handle difficult behavior, manage manipulative behavior, encourage positive behavior, and how to be fair with rules and consequences.
Teens are a great joy and a great challenge! Join us for a lively discussion of provocative as well as "typical" teen behavior. Presenters use dramatic role plays to demonstrate strategies for dealing with parent-child conflict positively and productively.
A workshop for parents whose child has been diagnosed with attention problems. We'll discuss strategies for homework, organization, self-control, and social skills at home and at school.
This workshop presents practical ideas, techniques, and strategies for parents of children with especially challenging behaviors. Are you unsure if behavior warrants professional help? Bring examples of problems you'd like help with.
