FAQ

Q. What happens if you are not accepting clients on your current waiting list for services?

A. The referral specialist will send to you a listing of other area therapy resources that may be accepting clients at the time.


Q. What kind of insurance do you accept?

A. We accept Medical Assistance as well as private insurance. We do have providers in-network with: Magellan, American Psych. Systems, United Behavioral Health, Carefirst BC/BS, Carefirst BlueChoice, and Medicare. We can provide services to those who wish to go out of network as well. Once you call for services, co-pays and other fees will be determined.


Q. What if I don't have insurance?

A. The agency offers scholarship funding and a sliding scale payment option for low-income families with no insurance. (Families applying for financial assistance must have a child under the age of 18). The referral specialist will help you through this process. You may also want to consider visiting the Department of Social Services to apply for Medical Assistance coverage.


Q. What age groups does the agency work with?

A. We are a full mental health clinic, serving the public of all ages, despite our name.


Q. What types of problems do clients at the agency have?

A. Therapists typically address mental health concerns related to individual trauma, childhood and adolescent development, family stressors, attention deficit problems and school adjustment. Marital therapy and the challenges of single parents are also common treatment themes. Treatment for depression, anxiety and mood disorders are often successfully treated with a combination of medication and psychotherapy.

Q. Will my child's therapist tell me if he/she is partaking in unhealthy or unsafe behaviors?

 

A. Our policy is to respect the confidentiality of every client, even children. However, if a minor is participating in dangerous behaviors, or is a harm to themselves or others, a parent or other appropriate authority will be notified. The agency also follows HIPAA regulations (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) in regards to client records. For more information, please see our privacy policy.


Q. When is the agency closed?

A. The agency is closed on weekends and on all major holidays, including New Year's Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Sometimes the office may close early preceding or following these holidays, or in case of a weather emergency. For weather-related closings, please call 410-848-2500 x4 or 410-876-2500 x4.

Q. Is this a state agency, like Department of Social Services?

A. No. The Youth Service Bureau is an independent, not-for-profit, private agency, funded by a combination of county, state, federal, and private grant monies. We are not directly connected to any state agencies.


Q.Where is the Youth Service Bureau?

A. The Youth Service Bureau is located in Westminster, very close to the intersection of Route 97 and Main St. From that intersection, head West toward downtown, and take a quick right turn onto 140 Village Rd., right across from Stables restaurant and Highs.  At the second left, turn into the JCK Center.  You'll see a liquor store and the Shipping Station. We're the last suite of offices in the JCK Center.
