Carroll County Youth Service Bureau

History of CCYSB

The Carroll County Youth Service Bureau has provided outpatient mental health services in Carroll County since 1972 and has grown into a multi-disciplinary behavioral health service practice that offers a range of outpatient treatment services. CCYSB was established under the auspices of the Department of Juvenile Services. Thanks to partnerships with community agencies and local and state departments of government, CCYSB began offering counseling services to elementary, middle and high school students, as well as a Social Work Intern program at the agency in its first years of existence. The agency originated with the idea of focusing mainly on individual treatment, and added a couple of different aspects, such as parenting education and group therapy for children of divorce.

Beginning in 1991, CCYSB responded to the needs of the growing community, by focusing on family therapy in addition to individual work with children. Then, steadily, year by year, the agency added more and more programs to reach all aspects of the needs of families, children, and agencies in the community. The number of individuals served has roughly doubled in the past ten years. In fiscal year 1994, the agency served 973 individuals, and in fiscal year 2004, the agency served 1,857 individuals. The agency is currently working on a capital campaign initiative to move from the 8.600 square foot building CCYSB is currently housed in, to a newly built 20,000 square foot building. Currently the agency offers more than 15 different programs and services to the community.
